Product Specifications
Manufacturer:
ICU Medical
Brand: SwabCap
Product Number: SCXT3-2000
Application: Needlefree Connector Cap
Disinfectant: 70% IPA
How It Works
Inside each SwabCap is a sponge that contains 70% isopropyl alcohol. Once the lid is screwed on to the needleless connector, the alcohol sponge connects with the surface and comes in contact with any bacteria present. This causes the bacteria to swell, causing them to break down and effectively killing the cell. Within 30 seconds, the tip is sterilized. The cap can stay in place for up to 7 days with the same results.
What Is It Made Of?
The interior of the SwabCaps contain 70% isopropyl alcohol which is enclosed within an elastomeric material. This has been molded for easy gripping, while still being gentle on the skin of the patient.
Is It Reusable?
No, these are designed to be single use. Once the cap is removed, it no longer is sterile and should be thrown away. Due to the nature of the cap, it cannot be resterilzed.
How and When to Use It
First, pull the tab on the protective cover to remove it from the sterile environment. Keep it in the white holder for best results. Take hold of the connector and push the SwabCap while twisting clockwise. Once securely in place, remove the cap from the white protective cover, while keeping it attached to the needleless connector.
For best results, place the SwabCap on the unused needless connectors after the catheter and tubing set is in place. This is able to stay in place for up to seven days and maintain effectiveness. Once an access site has been used, be sure to use a new cap as they are not reusable. SwabCaps protect connectors from contaminants in between uses.
